Appreciating the Patient Engagement Spectrum

Effective patient engagement requires an understanding of the full engagement spectrum: from inform and educate me, to guide me, consult and design with me, to empower me as a patient. This course will introduce this engagement spectrum and guide learners to consider the implications for behavior change, health and disease management, as well as low and high engagement touchpoints across the innovation value chain as well as patient journey.

Understanding the Whole Patient

This course presents an in-depth analysis of the whole patient framework. The course is structured around discussions, reflections and assessments, as well as comparative analysis-- enabling learners to both individually and collaboratively develop the whole patient profile. Learners will assess patient physical and psychological needs, in addition to, assessing the impact of socio-cultural context and patient life experiences, on the needed engagement across the patient journey.
Designing for the Whole Patient
Patient case studies will be used to provide opportunities for practical application of the whole patient framework. Stakeholders will “Walk into the Patient's Whole Life” to gain a holistic sense of patient needs and expectations for engagement and health management—ultimately encouraging the design of health innovation and health service delivery, for the whole patient. Learners will use the Engaged Thinking Patient Engagement Canvas to map out effective innovation and service design strategies.
